The fire is understood to have started at the hotel laundry.
Suchart Hirankanokkul, the Managing Director of the Graceland hotel told The Phuket News, “It started in the laundry where some cleaning fluid, because of the heat, caught fire. It’s mostly smoke. Everything is under control now."
Mr Suchart said there were no injuries reported from the fire, but guests were evacuated from the main building as a precaution.
“Our staff have training twice a year about how to handle a fire like this. Staff moved flammable equipment out of the way, such as gas burners and gas cylinders so they would not catch fire.
“It was not a big fire. It was just a lot of smoke, but it meant our staff couldn’t see anything inside the room, so they told me they would call the fire brigade.”
