Officials carried out emergency repairs to cracks in the road yesterday, while the Phuket Highways Office issued a warning in a notice issued late yesterday.
The cracks appeared opposite the Wyndham Sea Pearl Resort Phuket resort at km. 1 + 350, with the cracks appearing due to the earth underneath subsiding.
“We would like to announce this for everyone to know and apologise for the inconvenience,” the Highways Office said.
“Please be careful!” the notice added.
Patong Municipality, Kathu Municipality and the Phuket Highways Office all have yet to publicly post any reports on the repairs underway, or give any indication when the repairs might be completed.
Phuket MP Chalermpong Saengdee last night thanked Patong Municipality for having a light installed at the site so motorists could see the danger and follow the traffic cones as motorists are guided into one lane past the repair area.
Officials started taking more serious steps to repair the area, with a backhoe and a repair tem deployed to the site yesterday evening, MP Chalermpong reported.
With no official reports confirming the work being carried out, it appears from photos of the scene that officials are taking more serious steps to counter the subsidence and reinforce the area to avoid further slippage of the earth supporting the road.
MP Chalermpong noted that the repairs are continuing today (Nov 30).
