The man’s dangerous driving behaviour, caught on video and posted online, saw him repeatedly swerve dangerous across his lane and even brake suddenly to a stop to confront the driver behind him.
The incident occurred at the intersection near Vachira Phuket Hospital and continued along Yaowarat Rd between 4:30-5pm on Sunday (May 26).
The driver, identified by police as a 31-year-old man from Bangkok but not named in their report, was brought in for questioning by the Phuket City Police.at 9:30am yesterday (May 27).
The driver admitted to the reckless driving depicted in the online videos.
Pol Lt Col Kamlas Niyomkhet informed him of the charges under the Road Traffic Act, which prohibits driving in a manner that endangers people or property, carrying a fine of B400 to B1,000.
He was also charged for obstructing traffic, which carries a fine of up to B500.
The driver accepted the charges and agreed to pay the maximum fines for each offense, police confirmed.
The police also confirmed that no physical or property damage was reported by the other party involved, who recorded the incident.
The Phuket City Police Traffic Division has issued a reminder to all Phuket residents to adhere strictly to traffic laws and to drive considerately. They expressed their concern for public safety and urged everyone to drive safely to their destinations.
