Investigators at Chalong Police Station said the arrest followed a complaint filed on May 12 by a foreign national who reported that an unidentified man had broken into their villa at a hotel in Rawai during the night and stolen cash and several pieces of jewellery.

Police launched an investigation immediately, gathering evidence and reviewing CCTV footage and possible escape routes.

Investigators later identified the suspect as a 34-year-old Thai man whom they named only as ‘Banphot’ and obtained an arrest warrant from the Phuket Provincial Court on charges of theft in a dwelling at night.

According to police, Banphot had no fixed address and allegedly attempted to evade arrest, making it difficult for officers to track him down.

However, investigators continued monitoring his movements and eventually learned that he had rented a room in Karon, where he was believed to be hiding.

Officers from Chalong Police Station arrested the suspect on Tuesday (May 26) under the court-issued warrant and took him in for questioning, Chlong Police reported yesterday.

During initial interrogation, Banphot allegedly confessed to breaking into the villa and stealing the valuables. Police said he also admitted selling the stolen property in Nonthaburi Province.

Chalong Police did not report exactly what was stolen from the villa.

Investigators later discovered that the suspect was allegedly linked to similar thefts in Rawai and Wichit. Police are now expanding the investigation to identify and prosecute people suspected of purchasing the stolen goods.

Chalong Police said they continue to maintain strict security measures to protect residents and tourists in the area.

Chalong Police also reminded members of the public that they can report suspicious activity or request assistance by calling the national emergency hotline 191 or Chalong Police Station directly at 076-381247.
