The council seat for Rawai Constituency 2 became available on Oct 1, explained a notice by Rawai Municipality.
As such, an election will be held in Rawai Constituency 2 on Nov 23, the notice confirmed.
Constituency 2 covers a huge area, as Rawai has only two constituencies.
The Phuket branch of the Election Commission of Thailand (ECT Phuket) defines Constituency 2 as: the area from Chalong Circle to Chalong Bay, continuing south along the Phuket coastline through Moo 1, 2, 3, 5 and 7, including the islands Koh Lone, Koh Hei, Koh Bon, Koh Aew, Koh Man, Koh Kaew Yai, Koh Kaew Noi, Koh Racha Yai, Koh Racha Noi, and Koh Tanan. Constituency 2 also continues along the Rawai beachfront and extends west to Cape Phromthep, then north along the coast back to Chalong, with an area cut out for Constituency 1.
Candidates can register at the Rawai Municipality Office from 8.30am to 4.30pm, Tuesday through to Saturday this coming week (Oct 14-18).
Of note, under the Election Act, the election on Nov 23 will invoke a ban on the sale of alcohol in Rawai Constituency 2 from 6pm the day before the election through to 6pm on the day of the election.
