The village was the one most heavily affected by the tremor at 4:44 yesterday afternoon, which sent people tumbling out of their homes in panic.

Phuket Vice Governor Somkiat Sangkhaosutthirak, along with officials of Sri Soonthorn Municipality and the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phuket Office, visited the village last night to check damage from the quake.

The Thailand Meteorological Department reported the quake had a magnitude of 4.3 on the Richter scale, and that it was centred in Thalang.

The US Geological Survey disagreed, putting the strength at 3.9 and the epicentre in the middle of Phang Nga Bay, jut south of Koh Yao Noi.

However, there were no reports of quake damage on Koh Yao Noi or Yai.

UPDATE: By Wednesday (April 18) the number of people claiming the walls of their homes had been cracked in the quake had risen to 90.
