The Princess arrived at Phuket International Airport at 9:30am aboard a royal aircraft and was welcomed by Phuket Governor Nirat Pongsitthaworn, senior judicial, military and police officials, airport executives and representatives of government agencies.
Members of the public gathered along parts of the route and at designated locations to welcome Her Royal Highness during the visit.
At 10:15am, Princess Sirindhorn arrived at the school in Phuket Town, where she was received by school director Natthayaporn Sewatanon and senior education officials.
The Princess first paid tribute at the monument of Her Royal Highness Princess Srinagarindra, the Princess Mother, by laying a floral wreath and offering incense and candles before proceeding to the newly completed Sri Sirindhorn Building.
During the opening ceremony, former school director Montri Pornpon presented a commemorative publication, while Ms Natthayaporn presented a charitable donation. Secretary-General of the Office of the Basic Education Commission Pichet Phophakdee outlined the objectives of the project.
Princess Sirindhorn also presented commemorative gifts to 150 benefactors in recognition of their support for the school.
The Princess formally inaugurated the building by unveiling the commemorative plaque and planting a Sirindhorn Champi tree within the school grounds.
She then toured academic exhibitions showcasing student projects integrating learning across eight subject areas. At the foreign languages exhibition, Her Royal Highness wrote the Chinese characters “诗琳通” (“Shi Lin Tong”), the Chinese rendering of her name.
The visit also included a student choir performance and a meeting with representatives from Yaowawit School and Phuket Vocational College, who introduced students to report on their educational progress.
Before departing, Princess Sirindhorn signed the school’s guestbook and posed for commemorative photographs with school administrators, teachers and government officials.
Following the completion of her royal duties, Her Royal Highness returned to Phuket International Airport and departed for Bangkok at 3pm.
The Phuket Provincial Public Relations Office said the royal visit brought great pride and appreciation to school administrators, teachers, students and residents across Phuket.
