The project was confirmed at a meeting of the Phuket Provincial Land Transport Control Committee held at Phuket Provincial Hall earlier this week.
The session was chaired by Phuket Vice Governor Adul Chuthong and attended by PPAO President Mr Rewat. Also present was Adcha Buachan, Phuket Land Transport Office (PLTO), and other officials.
Mr Rewat told the meeting that the PPAO is procuring 10 electric-powered buses that meet Section 2C safety and environmental standards. The fleet will serve the Phuket Airport–Bypass Road–Baan Rawai route, providing a cleaner, quieter alternative to conventional transport for residents and visitors.
To allow time for the purchase and licensing process, the committee approved a 270-day extension of the operating licence for the route. The EV buses are expected to begin service in June 2026.
The meeting also reviewed the renewal and issuance of transport licences for several key Phuket routes, including Phuket Town–Tha Chatchai, Phuket Town–Ao Bang Rong, Phuket Town–Kamala, Phuket Town–Patong, and Phuket Town–Ao Makham–Marine Biology and Fisheries Research Institute.
Officials noted that assistance measures are being prepared for operators whose buses have reached the end of their permitted service life.
Vice Governor Adul said the new EV fleet will help modernise Phuket’s public transport network while ensuring compliance with the Land Transport Act of 1979.
“The aim is to improve convenience and safety for both residents and tourists while supporting Phuket’s environmental goals,” he said.
