The warning to motorists was posted on the Phuket Info Center page around 3.10pm today (Aug 25). Although attributed to the Kathu Municipality, the notice has not yet been published by the sub-district officials themselves.
Pictures from the scene show a single pothole in the middle of the left eastbound lane of the road, next to the entrance of Phuket Goldenville / The Space housing project and Lotus’s supermarket.
“Kathu Municipality has installed flashing lights, traffic cones, and barrier sticks [at the scene]. Reflective detour signs have been placed around the pothole to prevent road accidents. Drivers are kindly requested to drive slowly and exercise caution,” stated the Phuket Info Center.
Not explicitly mentioned in the report but clearly visible in the picture is that the road space in the eastbound direction (towards Samkong and the bypass road) has been limited to one lane only.
In case of traffic jams, drivers can use one of two alternative routes: either the northern semi-circle of Wichit Songkram Rd (passing Si Kor Market and Red Mountain Golf Club) or the southern semi-circle of Wichit Songkram Rd (passing Kathu Wittaya School and Phuket Country Club).
