In addition to being a popular teacher, Mr Goacher was a regular pool player, captaining the Walkabout team since the Southern Phuket Pool League was formed. He also played for a number of years before that in the Patong League.
The Southern League chairman, Brendan Foy, who was a close friend, said of him, “He was recognised for his love of a cup of tea or a diet Coke rather than a beer, but every now and then, especially if Walkabout had won the beer leg, he would have a glass of Baileys.
“Geoff was a lovely man and a good mate. Many, myself included, will miss him a great deal. Our banter [with him] was great fun and our in-depth chats revealing and caring.
“He was a very popular member of the League and liked by all, teammates and opponents alike.”
Teams in the pool leagues have been asked to observe a minute’s silence before their matches this Thursday (May 14). They have also been asked to send a team photo, holding either Mr Goacher’s photo, or a card with his name.
Mr Goacher is survived by his wife Veronica and foster daughter Rainbow in Phuket and a daughter and son in the UK.
A cremation will be held at Wat Chalong from 10 am till 4pm on Saturday (May 16).
