Police seize 11 modified motorbikes in late-night crackdown

PHUKET: Wichit Police, together with local authorities and security personnel from the so-called ‘Village Protection and Peacekeeping Force’ (ChorRorPor), seized 11 modified motorcycles in a late-night operation targeting street racing in the Laem Dinso area on Monday night (Aug 25).

The ‘ChorRorBor’ is yet another militarised branch of internal security operating under the Ministry of Interior’s Department of Provincial Administration (DOPA). The ChorRorPor is independent of, but works alongside the ominously well-known Village Defence Corps (OrSor), which is also operated under the Ministry of Interior.

With DOPA support, the operation, carried out between 9pm and 11pm, was led by Pol Lt Sunthon Phetsang, Deputy Inspector (Investigation) of Wichit Police Station, alongside Village Headman Kittithat Khunkla of Moo 6 and 11 ChorRorPor personnel.

The patrol checkpoint was set up under orders from Wichit Police Chief Pol Col Somsak Thongkliang, with oversight by Deputy Superintendent of Investigation Pol Lt Col Wutthiwat Liangbunchinda.

Officers inspected a total of 18 vehicles, along with 25 motorcycles and 67 individuals during the operation. The search focused on modified motorcycles fitted with loud exhaust pipes, as well as checks for drugs, weapons and other illegal items.

Eleven modified motorcycles were seized and handed over to investigators at Wichit Police Station for legal proceedings.

Pol Col Somsak said the crackdown was part of the Phuket Provincial Police’s ongoing plan to tackle street racing and associated crimes. He noted that despite regular enforcement, illegal motorcycle racing and the use of modified bikes remain a persistent problem in the Laem Dinso area.

“Wichit Police will continue to work closely with local leaders and patrol networks to prevent and suppress crime,” he said. “Anyone found modifying vehicles for illegal racing or causing public disturbance will face legal action, and their bikes will be seized.”
