Acting on a tip-off, officers from Region 8 Police arrested Somchok “Bao” Thanomjit, 36, as he approached the offices of the private transport company TB Partnership Limited, located at the Sri Suchart Grand View 3 housing estate in Rassada.
Somchok, confessed he was on his way to collect a parcel addressed to “Piyamas Phetrat”, the same name that police informants said the drugs would be sent to. Somchok had in his possession a delivery notice with which to claim the parcel, said police.
Inside the parcel was a modem router box packed with, not a modem, but 11,040 methamphetamine pills.
Somchok, who police said was a resident of Ranong province, reportedly told police that the drugs did not belong to him.
He claimed he was only a drug addict, and that he “did this job for only two or three years” on behalf of a man he named as “Bang Sod”, reported Region 8 Police.
“He got a call from Bang Sod at 9:30am telling him to collect the parcel addressed to Piyamas’ postbox, so he left his room in Koh Keaw to come get the box,” one officer said.
“He said he did this job because Bang Sod always gave drugs to addicts,” the officer added.
Somchok was taken to Phuket City Station and charged with possession of a Category 1 drug with intent to sell.
