Police ramp up pressure on Phuket riot ‘agitators’

PHUKET: Phuket Provincial Police chief Maj Gen Pachara Boonyasit today vowed that police will as quickly as possible arrest anyone believed to have urged local residents on and sparked the riots that saw more than a dozen vehicles burned and every window at Thalang Police Station smashed on Saturday night (Oct 10).

“Mostly they are drug dealers who do not like the police. They do not like us because we have arrested some their colleagues already,” Maj Gen Pachara told The Phuket News today (Oct 13).

Gen Pachara said police already have over 50 names and photos of suspects believed to have instigated the attacks.

“Arrest warrants will be issued very soon, likely within 10 days,” Gen Pachara said.

“Right now, we have nine suspects that we will ask for arrest warrants for first. All of them are the local youngsters who were reportedly very drunk at the scene. We already have their pictures,” Gen Pachara confirmed.

“It’s not only from our undercover officers who have pictures of these suspects at the scene. Local residents who were there also have a lot of pictures that they took themselves on the night, and they sent some of those pictures to us.

“We should be able to start making arrests in a few days,” Gen Pachara said.
