Police probe suspected backhoe arson

PHUKET: Police are investigating a suspected arson attack after a backhoe loader was destroyed in an early-morning fire in Thalang, with key evidence now sent for forensic examination.

Phuket Provincial Police reported that the incident occurred at a construction site operated by Kanda Company in Moo 1, Thepkrasattri.

The fire is believed to have started sometime between Saturday evening (Apr 18) and yesterday morning (Apr 19).

According to the report, a yellow Caterpillar backhoe loader, bearing licence plate TC 591 Phuket, had been parked at the site at about 5pm on Saturday. Damage caused by fire was later discovered at around 8am the following day. The incident was formally reported to police at 12pm.

The vehicle owner, 38-year-old Pichet Thinthalang, a resident of Srisoonthorn, Thalang, filed a complaint with investigators. No injuries were reported, and no suspect has been identified.

Officers have already conducted a joint inspection of the burned vehicle as part of the initial investigation.

Evidence collected from the scene has been sent to the Provincial Forensic Science Division and will be further examined by Forensic Science Division 8 as police work to determine the exact cause of the fire.
