Pol Lt Charat Lemphan of the Chalong Police was informed of the incident at 10:30pm.
Police and Chalong Municipality firefighters arrived at the scene to find the car engulfed by flames.
Firefighters soon doused the blaze, but by then the car had been destroyed.
A 58-year-old man from Koh Tao* in Pa Phayom District. Phatthalung, presented himself as the owner of the car. (* Not to be confused with the renowned island of Koh Tao, in Koh Pha-ngan District of Surat Thani)
The man said a neighbour raised the alarm and told him that his car, registered in Phatthalung, was on fire. He then called the fire department.
The man, who police did not name, said he moved to live in Phuket in August. He came to make a living making and selling Thai desserts.
The car was last driven on Sunday (Nov 19), and had remained where it was parked since midday that day, he said.
The man had not driven the car anywhere since.
Officers are continuing their investigation, and have not yet ruled out arson.
