The 191 call centre in Phuket was informed of the incident at 10:30pm.
Wichit Police along with emergency responders from the Kusoldharm Foundation arrived at the scene, opposite the Happy Inn Hotel on Wichit Songkhram Rd, in Wichit, to find the injured woman bleeding profusely from a head wound.
Emergency first aid was administered before she was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital for further treatment.
Abdullah Yasing, 26, the injured woman’s boyfriend, explained that they had been riding separate motorbikes, coming from the Bang Wad reservoir in Kathu. They were on their way to pick up his girlfriend’s mother in Phuket Town.
Riding ahead of his girlfriend, Mr Abdullah heard a loud bang and turned to see his girlfriend in distress. Believing she had been shot, he stopped to assist her.
His girlfriend revealed that a bottle had been thrown at her, but she could not identify the assailant as they had driven past too quickly.
Following the initial investigation, authorities discovered that the bottle likely originated from one of the bars by the side of the road.
On the street where the young woman was struck were the shattered remains of a Leo beer bottle.
A formal report of the incident, which occurred within the jurisdiction of Kathu Police Station, has been recorded in the police’s daily log, police noted
Further investigations are underway to determine the motive and identify the perpetrator, officers said.
