In Rawai, Chalong Police Chief Pol Col Surasak Jaidee led an area inspection on Tuesday night (Dec 16), alongside Pol Lt Col Chakraphong Petcharat, local police units, Rawai Mayor Thames Kraithat and Rawai headman Jarung Thaochan.
The operation focused on crime prevention planning, “community problem-solving” and identifying locations for CCTV installation, particularly in the sea gypsy village in Moo 2, Rawai, said an official report of the raid.
The visit formed part of the ‘Stronger Together’ community policing project and the Sustainable Subdistrict Project, aimed at tackling drug problems in Rawai Moo 2 and Moo 5.
Following the inspection, police arrested Supachai Pramongkit, 21, in Soi Mookdee, Moo 2, Rawai, seizing what was reported as “28 bags of methamphetamine” weighing 11.89 grammes.
Supachai was charged with possession of a Category 1 narcotic with intent to sell and illegal consumption of methamphetamine.
Separately, in Thalang, district officials arrested a small-scale drug dealer identified only as ‘Mr Hreed’ in Moo 8, Sri Soonthorn, with officers seizing 202 methamphetamine pills (ya bah).
He was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to sell, drug consumption, and driving under the influence of narcotics, before being handed over to Thalang Police.
A further operation was carried out on Tuesday night, from 6:30pm to 9:30pm, with inspections of Myanmar migrant worker camps in Sri Soonthorn and checkpoints set up in Thepkrasattri. No illegal items were found, but 15 individuals tested positive for drugs and agreed to enter treatment programmes.
