Ms Shaw was riding pillion on a motorbike driven by Julie Robinson, 55, when the motorbike was struck from behind by a pickup truck on Phra Baramee Rd, near the entrance to Soi Kuan Yang, on the descent into Patong Town. (See story here.)
“We have yet to charge anyone with reckless driving causing death and injury at this time as we have yet to conclude our investigation,” Lt Sirinart Cherdchootrakulthong of the Kathu Police told The Phuket News today (Dec16).
“We have taken statements from both Ms Robinson and the pickup truck driver, Nattaphol Kromkhun 22. We have also questioned witnesses in the area,” she said.
However, Lt Sirinart did not elaborate on what else was required in order for police to close their investigation.
A witness told police on Saturday that the two foreign women exited the Family Mart on the opposite side of the road and attempted to make a U-turn, to head back toward Patong when they were struck by the pickup truck from behind.
The British embassy and Ms Leane’s family have been notified of the accident, Lt Sirinart confirmed.
“Arrangements are being made to repatriate her body later this week,” she said.
