Wittaya Sriularawat, 32, the manager of the Baba’s souvenir store, located on the spur road from Phuket International Airport to Thepkrasattri Rd (Route 4026), reported the robbery after he arrived for work at 8am yesterday (Oct 3).

“The shop opened about a year ago and this morning I came to open the shop as usual when I found the window slightly opened, so I went inside to check,” Mr Wittaya told The Phuket News.

“I called police right away after I discovered several items were missing,” he said.

Among the items stolen were several pearl necklaces, earrings, rings and other jewellery, along with some cash, Mr Wittaya reported.

Capt Suporn Muangkhai of the Thalang Police soon arrived with fellow officers to find a window at the back of the shop had been forced open.

Capt Suporn added that the shop’s security CCTV footage showed two suspects arrived at the shop on a motorbike at about 4am yesterday.

“One of them sat outside keeping watch while the other broke into the shop via the back window,” he explained.

“It was raining a lot that night so we assume that the suspects took advantage during that time to commit the theft,” Capt Suporn said.

“Luckily CCTV footage captured images the suspects and we collected some fingerprints from the scene. Hopefully we’ll find them soon,” he added.
