Ponchai Pongseeda, 32, from Surin province, and Myanmar national Sai Htike, 36, reported the incident to Patong Police at about 7:48am.

The men told police that they were sitting on Bangla Rd opposite Soi Sea Dragon when at about 6:20am they saw a man, later identified as Sarawut Booniai, 33, chased into Soi Sea Dragon by a group of people.

Ponchai and Sai Htike went to intervene, and were stabbed by one of the attackers, reportedly not Thais. Ponchai suffered a cut to his right cheek and Sai Htike suffered a knife wound to his inside right elbow.

Ponchai and Sai Htike both went to Patong Hospital for treatment of their injuries. At the hospital they learned that Sarawut was receiving medical treatment and undergoing an x-ray. He has a knife wound to his left hand and neck, and apparently had been struck by a vehicle.

Patong Police reported that they were investigating the incident and working on identifying the assailants.
