The news became public after a CCTV video of the man carrying out the panty raid was shared widely across local social media channels yesterday (Mar 12).
The woman whose underwear was stolen, who asked to be called only ‘Ms Ja’ (not her real name), 42, told reporters that the incident happened about 11:20pm on Mar 3.
The man, wearing a blue T-shirt and black shorts, stole about seven bras worth B800 and about 15 pairs of panties worth B1,000 from the area in front of her rented room. The under garments were left out to dry.
Ms Ja said she filed a complaint with Patong Police over the incident.
“This is very troubling. I don’t dare hang my underwear in front of the room again, fearing they will be stolen again,” she said.
Ms Ja said that since she reported her underwear being stolen, others have come forward to confirm that they too had their underwear stolen.
“We want the police to catch the culprit, because this has created a lot of anxiety and annoyance for all the people living here,” Ms Ja said.
Patong Police confirmed they are checking CCTV footage from the area in the hope of tracking down the thief.
