A security signal alerted bank staff that the ATM had been broken into, but by the time police arrived the criminals had gone. At the scene they found the lower part of the ATM had been opened, but the part containing the cash was still secure – the criminals had not been able to open it.
Phuket forensic police officers and bank officers are waiting for CCTV footage from the ATM to help identify the criminals, but believe at least two people are responsible.
Police said the criminals were amateur, and did not have very professional equipment to open the ATM.
