Police fail to find ping-pong shows

PHUKET: In a strange exercise last night, police officers acting under orders from the Anti-Human Trafficking Division (AHTD) of Police Region 5, raided five Patong bars suspected to be staging pornographic “ping-pong” shows.

They failed to find any.

Members of the media, who had been alerted to the impending raids yesterday afternoon, were not allowed to accompany the officers during the raids, which focused on the Soi Bangla area, but were told to wait in a nearby bar until called.

When reporters were eventually allowed to join the officers at a nightclub on Soi Sea Dragon, they found the officers in relaxed mood while girls in skimpy bikinis jiggled around poles on a stage.

The reporters were surprised to be told, “No, we didn’t find any pornographic shows.”

Outside on Soi Bangla, touts for ping-pong shows continued to grab at tourists, trying to drag them in to see the entertainment.

The tourists presumably would be bitterly disappointed to find that no such shows exist in Patong – that’s now official.
