Police officers from Wichit Police Station confirmed they apprehended 41-year-old Bangkok resident Phromma Hunthong on Friday (Sept 29) after he was found to be selling the contraband to mobile phone shops in the Patong and Bang Tao areas of the island.
Officers confirmed Mr Phromma had stolen and sold a total of 19 mobile phones and an arrest warrant was issued on Friday by the Phuket Provincial Court.
Mr Phromma was arrested by police officers in front of a house at Village No. 7, Soi Yangyuen, Kathu. It was not specified in police reports whether the house belonged to Mr Phromma or whether it was a rented property where he was staying in Phuket.
When initially questioned at the scene, Mr Phromma confessed to stealing a total of 19 mobile phones which he then sold to the retail stores.
All the phones were still in their original box packaging with instructions and all related accessories intact.
It was not stated where Mr Phromma had stolen the items from, likewise how much the phones were sold for, nor which shops in Phuket had bought them from him.
Mr Phromma was then taken to Wichit Police Station where he was to face legal proceedings.
The team of officials overseeing the arrest was led by Police Lieutenant Colonel Anurak Klangnarong of Wichit Police Station, who was joined by: Superintendent Pol. Col. Chatri Chukaew; Pol. Lt. Col. Atthawat Suwannarat, Deputy Wichit Police Station Superintendent; Police Lieutenant Natthi Conquering Chainithimeth; and Police Lieutenant Pichet Kalchanwanthana.
