Copper wiring was cut and removed from Kathu Sports Park on Wichit Songkram Rd.last Thursday (Nov 7). The copper wiring stolen was estimated to be worth B57,600, police reported.
The ensuing investigation revealed that one man, identified by police only as ‘Mr Det’ (not his real name), had bought the stolen wiring and intended to sell it on.
Officers coordinated with a secondhand shop in Kathu, where Det was expected to sell the materials. Mr Det arrived at the shop yesterday (Nov 11), with the stripped copper wires in hand.
Police moved in and questioned him, and Det admitted to buying the wires from two other suspects, named by police only as ‘Mr Golf’ and ‘Mr Joy’ (both pseudonyms).
Officers subsequently tracked down and arrested both Golf and Joy, who confessed to their involvement in the crime.
Golf and Joy now face charges of “jointly committing theft at night in a public space without permission and causing damage to public property” as well as other related offences, police reported.
Meanwhile, Det faces charges for “assisting in the concealment and sale of property obtained by theft.”
All suspects are now under police custody as the investigation proceeds, Kathu Police confirmed.
