At 12:30am today (July 31), Capt Warawut Sensob of the Thalang Police was informed that a pickup truck had crashed on the nourthbound side of Thepkrasattri Rd close to the Esso petrol station in Moo 8, Srisoonthorn, in Thalang.

Capt Warawut went to the scene with Song Ya rescue workers to find a silver Mitsubishi Strada pickup truck with serious damage to its front and left side.

Rescue workers had to remove the driver, named as Yingyong Thongaon, 22, from Phatthalung, from the vehicle.

Mr Yingyong had sustained wounds to his face and neck, and serious wounds to his chest. He did not have a pulse.

Rescue workers performed CPR at the scene before taking Mr Yingyong to Thalang Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

From police’s initial investigation, it has been reported that Mr Yingyong was driving the pickup alone from Heroines’ Monument towards Mai Khao. When he arrived the scene he lost control of the vehicle, hit the central reservation before crashing into a palm tree causing the vehicle to spin into the opposite lane.

Officers believe that Mr Yingyong fell asleep whilst driving the vehicle. However, they will investigate further to find the true cause of the accident.
