Pol Lt Col Niwat Timket, an investigator at Thalang Police Station, was notified of the incident at 10:50pm on Srisoonthorn Rd near Baan Manik.
Rescue workers from Srisunthorn Municipality and volunteers from the Kusoldharm Phuket Foundation arrived to find a Mitsubishi pickup lying on its side in a ditch. The driver, identified as 43-year-old Myanmar national Yang Yongxi, was trapped inside the vehicle.
Rescuers worked to free the man, who sustained a fractured right leg, before rushing him to Thalang Hospital for treatment.
Witnesses told police the vehicle was travelling from the Heroines Monument towards Cherng Talay when the driver lost control at the curve and plunged the pickup into the ditch.
Passers-by who stopped to help said Yang claimed he had passengers in the back of the truck, but no one was found at the scene. Beer bottles were also reportedly discovered nearby, raising suspicions of drink driving.
Police have impounded the vehicle and are awaiting the results of a formal blood alcohol test as part of their investigation.
