The tailbacks stretched from the underpass construction site in front of Tesco-Lotus to as far back – and through – the recently completed underpass in front of Central Festival Phuket.
“Traffic from Samkong is adding to the jam on the bypass road,” Mongkol Tiamrat, director of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Phuket office (DDPM-Phuket), told The Phuket News.
“The general situation is fine. Other areas in Phuket Town old are not flooded,” he added. “The only problem is traffic not flowing in the front of Tesco-Lotus, where the underpass is under is construction.”
Motorists were urged to avoid the area while rains continue.
“Motorists heading northbound should avoid the area by using Vichit Songkram Rd, then turning right onto Phra Phuket Keaw Rd to rejoin the bypass road further north,” one traffic policeman at the scene suggested.
