Phuket woman, 54, walking 842km to Bangkok for late King

PHUKET: A 54-years-old woman from Kathu yesterday set off on a 842-kilometre walk to Bangkok to honor His Majesty the late King Bhumibol who passed away on October 13. She is the second person from Phuket to set-off on the journey.

Members of the Kusoldharm Rescue Foundation reported at 6am yesterday (Oct 26) that a Phuket woman is walking to Bangkok to pay condolences for HM the late King Bhumibol.

The woman, Ms Malee Dongmai, 54, from Kathu was spotted crossing Sarasin Bridge early yesterday morning.

Ms Malee said, “This is the first time doing such a long walk and what I am doing ismy way of showing love and loyalty to the late King.

“I started my walk from Saphan Hin and every 50km I will take a rest and maybe some sleep. I am graceful that I am doing something for the late King.

All along the road residents came out to greet me and offered me food and drink. People gave me courage and moral support on this mission,” she said.

On Tuesday (Oct 25), 37-year-old Mr Duang Indang, 37, from Cherng Talay also set of to Bangkok by foot to pay condolences to the late King.

Mr Duang also said that he what he was doing was his way of showing love and loyalty to the late King. (See story here.)
