Cherng Talay police said they received a report from the resort that Judy Freshwater, aged 65, had been found dead.
They explained that Mrs Freshwater and her husband Tim had arrived at Amanpuri the day before. After dinner, Mrs Freshwater had headed back to the couple’s room alone.
When her husband went back to the room later, she was not there. He alerted resort staff who began a search for her.
They found Mrs Freshwater’s body under the pathway to their room, which at that point crosses a bridge with a drop under it of 3.5 metres.
Mr Freshwater told police that his wife was diabetic, and might have fallen unconscious during the walk back to their room.
