Also known as the Tao Bu Keng Shrine, the Bang Neow Shrine is one of the most popular Chinese shrines in Phuket Town, and one of the oldest, dating back to 1904.
The street procession today attracted thousands, including hordes of believers along with many more lining the streets to witness the spectacle, and to gain blessings from the mah song as they walked past.
The procession made its way through the heart of Phuket Town and continued to Spahan Hin, where more rituals and ceremonies were observed, before the mah song and devotees made their way back to the shrine, located on Phuket Rd.
The Gim Su Ong Shrine in Baan Don and the Cherng Talay Shrine also held their street processions this morning. The Tai Houd Tong Shrine at Surin Beach will hold its street procession at 5:15pm.
Tomorrow, four Chinese shrines are scheduled to hold their street processions as the festival enters its sixth day of festivities, as follows:
- 6:00pm the Lee Sian Tong Shrine in Srisoonthorn
- 6:30am - Gim Su Ong Shrine (Baan Don)
- 8:00am - Guan Tae Gun (Baan Pon)
- 8:00am - Jui Tui Shrine (Phuket Town, see route map in image gallery above)
As usual, expect traffic delays, while the street processions are taking place.
