Officers from Sakhu Police Station were called to the scene at 6:50am on the road leading out of Phuket International Airport, in front of the Nai Yang Ice Factory in Moo 1, Sakhu.

Pol Lt Chapinya Suriyathamkul, Deputy Investigator at Sakhu Police, reported the incident to Pol Col Salan Santisasanakul, Superintendent of Sakhu Police Station, before proceeding to the scene with rescue workers from the Kusoltham Phuket Foundation.

There, officers found Worawit Panan, 52, of Cherng Talay, who identified himself as the driver of a van bearing Phuket licence plate 31-2626. On the roadway nearby lay the injured motorcyclist, face down but still conscious.

The victim was later identified as Kritsada Champathong, 39, of Mai Khao. He had been riding a Bangkok-registered motorbike. Rescue workers provided emergency first aid at the scene before urgently transporting him to Thalang Hospital.

According to eyewitness Duangporn Champathong, a foreign pedestrian suddenly crossed the road moments before the crash, causing vehicles to brake abruptly and triggering a chain reaction among following traffic.

The motorbike, travelling behind a van, was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the vehicle, she said, throwing the rider onto the road.

While Mr Kritsada was lying injured on the roadway, another van approaching from behind allegedly drove over him before fleeing without stopping to render assistance, shocking those who witnessed the incident.

CCTV footage from nearby cameras reportedly shows several vehicles braking in succession before the motorcycle collided with the slowing van. The footage then shows a second van running over the injured rider and continuing on without stopping.

Police confirmed that Mr Kritsada is an employee of Thai AirAsia, working in the aircraft parking area at Phuket International Airport. Initial medical reports indicate he suffered a punctured lung and a severed little finger. Doctors are continuing to provide close medical supervision.

Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage from the area and questioning witnesses in an effort to identify and locate the driver of the second van.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident or the fleeing vehicle to contact Sakhu Police Station. Authorities also reminded motorists to exercise caution, particularly during rush hour when traffic is heavy, and to stop and provide assistance in the event of an accident to help prevent further injury.
