United lost to Navy 3-2 in a tough contest that even saw defender Edson “Gugu” Silva substitute in for the goalkeeper in the hopes of providing more firepower in the final two minutes. Still, the island's professional five-a-side club was on the losing end of a hard-fought game that will unfortunately force United down to 10th place (7 points) in the Futsal Thailand Premier League.
Navy's Jessada Chudet (No. 8) opened the scoring shortly before the half. Jessada, who also plays on the Thailand national futsal squad and is consistently one of the top five FTPL scorers each season, scored again early in the second half to give Navy a commanding 2-0 lead.
But United's “Gugu” (No. 9) ripped a shot from just outside the arc to spark a Phuket comeback. Just minutes later, Patchaya Srimanta (No. 7) added another Phuket score to level the game in front of a raucous crowd of just over 2,000 people.
Navy had the last laught, however, as Fernando Marcos Vinicius (No. 6) scored roughly five minutes later to put his team ahead for good.
Phuket United travel to Chatchai Hall on today(May 6) to take on Nakhon Ratchasima.
Phuket will remain on the road for this Sunday's match (May 10) against Kat FC before heading back to Saphan Hin Sports Centre to take on Ayutthaya City next Saturday (May 16) – kickoff at 7pm.
