Phuket underpass-jacknife truck driver charged

PHUKET: The driver of the 22-wheeler that jacknifed into the concrete barriers and blocked the northbound entrance to the Darasamut Underpass yesterday afternoon (Mar 14) has blamed the car in front for braking suddenly and causing the accident.

The truck struck the rear of car before jacknifing into the concrete barriers separating the underpass lanes at about 3:45pm.

With the truck blocking the entrance to the tunnel, traffic backed up for an hour while the truck was removed from the scene.

The car suffered minor damage and no people were injured in the incident, confirmed Lt Waisaksda Tinkaew of the Wichit Traffic Police, who attended the scene.

“The truck driver said he tried to brake immediately because the car in front braked too close,” Lt Waisaksda said.

“Then he lost control of the truck, and the trailer pushed the truck into the concrete barrier,” he told The Phuket News.

The truck was carrying a small load of construction materials at the time, he noted.

Lt Waisaksda this morning said he could not remember the truck driver’s name.

However, he did confirm, “The driver has been charged with reckless driving causing damage to state property.”

Is there a Thai word for inertia 'cause it sure seems like no one is aware of it. Do students even get schooled rudimentary physics or is all just worship the XXXXXX stuff?

Re:Comment inserting "like, dislike"icon.Big "dislike"thumb down from me for it.

LOL...and still the stupid childish comments with nothing of any value. Kids have got to amuse themselves somehow I suppose

Timothy | 18 March 2018 - 13:50:38

Dear Editor, could you please insert a "like, dislike" icon to the comments section like the BP has. That would prove whose comments are found to be useful or useless as claimed by the resident apologist and defender of all things wrong with Phuket.

Let's take a vote on the most "irrelevant " comment my vote goes to this one,
"Well there ya go. All the useless PN commentators who were not even there giving their irrelevant nonsense 5 cents worth" my comment comes second lol.

Pauly44 | 17 March 2018 - 14:20:03

Pot calling the kettle black from THE most useless commentator of them all!

He jacknifed the lorry because he had no control after he had stamped on the brakes, which I could hear and see.
So for him to blame me he's talking rubbish.
Always, always very easy to blame someone else, especially when your in the wrong.

Dc65com | 16 March 2018 - 20:36:54

Just to refer to the above incident.
I was driving in the car in front of the lorry. I was approximately 50 metres in front of the lorry.
I was driving at under the speed limit, then the cars in front of me started braking ,I also braked after the car in front braked.
I could see in my rear view mirror, the truck driver either going to fast or distracted with something in the cab. He jacknifed.

We were always taught the 2 second rule, look at the vehicle in front, when it passes an object it should be 2 seconds before you pass it or you are too close, double it for wet weather. The idiots here apply a 1 metre rule!

Fascinated | 15 March 2018 - 20:45:14

Who needs a dashcam with **** in the car!

Kurt | 15 March 2018 - 15:08:06

What a idiot to blame the car in from of him. He has driving license?
Didn't learn you have to keep distance of traffic in front of you.
And such people are allowed to drive trucks?
Drive 50kmh per hour? Keep 5x5 = 25 meter distance from car in front
Drive 70kmh per hour? Keep 7x7= 49 meters distance from car in front.
Is that so hard to understand, even by road idiots?

Pauly44 | 15 March 2018 - 14:41:02

"The car in front braked too close" which means he was driving too close to the car in front, morons.
