At 10 am today (September 15) Region 8 police and Police from Koh Pa’ngan were called to help investigate the double murder on Sairee beach, after the two bodies, a young man and a young woman, were found in the morning.

The woman’s body was found on the beach about 200 metres from the bar, while the man was found floating in the sea nearby

The man appeared to have been hit with blunt object on the back of his neck before thrown into the sea. The woman’s naked body was found 20 metres. Her face was unrecognisable, having been smashed with a blunt object.

A witness told police, “We have a lot of European tourists [on the island] and last night we had drinks and a party near the beach. After the party was over everybody went to their rooms. The bodies were found this morning.”

Police believe that the victims were walking on the beach after the party when they encountered a person or group – they theorise it may have been a Burmese worker or workers – who tried to rob the couple, using something to hit the man from behind.

The attacker or attackers than tried to rape the woman but she fought back, angering the attackers, who then smashed her face before running away.

A blood-smeared hoe was found abandoned nearby. Police believe it may be the murder weapon.

All ports on the island have been closed while police search for the killer or killers.
