The event to be held at the Robinson Lifestyle shopping mall in Thalang from June 11-15, was announced at the mall yesterday (June 3).
Present for the announcement were Nuanchan Samart Khumban, President of the Phuket Andaman Muslim Women’s Association,. Lertchai Wangtrakuldee, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) Phuket Office and Wirintra Paphakityotphat, head of the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) Region 11 branch, which represents Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi.
Ms Nuanchan, as the chairperson of the event, highlighted that the "Southern Halal Expo & Tourism" will feature a wide range of Halal products, including food and beverages, and Muslim clothing.
The event will also include special religious lectures by experts and leading academics to promote community participation and foster a multicultural society in Phuket and the southern region.
TAT Phuket Chief Mr Lertchai emphasised the event’s potential to stimulate tourism during the low season by attracting Muslim and Arab tourists from countries such as Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia.
He noted that such tourists significantly contribute to Phuket’s economy and that the event would help develop the entrepreneurial potential of Halal products for local providers.
Ms Wirintra expressed that the "Southern Halal Expo & Tourism" would elevate Phuket’s tourism industry by welcoming a diverse range of tourists and promoting Muslim culture and Halal tourism.
“The event will enhance the visibility of Halal products and tourism in Phuket and the southern region, contributing to the development of soft power in the future,” she said.
