Phuket to hold mass ceremony to mark 30 days since passing of late King

PHUKET: Government officials are inviting all the island’s residents to attend a mass candle-lighting ceremony and singing of the Thai National Anthem (Phleng Chat Thai) and Thai Royal Anthem (Sansoen Phra Barami) to mark 30 days since the passing of His Majesty the late King at Leam Phromthep in Rawai this Saturday (Nov 12).

The announcement of the special ceremony was made by Governor Chockchai Dejamornthan yesterday morning (Nov 7) when he presided over the monthly “Governor Meets Press” meeting at Provincial Hall.

Gov Chockchai confirmed that Phuket will hold activities to mark 30 days since the passing of the late HM King Bhumibol who passed away on October 13.

“The activities at Phromthep Cape on Saturday including a candle-lighting ceremony and mass singing of the country’s National Anthem and Royal Anthem. The event will start at 3pm.

“People can come together to form one heart to honour HM the late King. It is a great opportunity for us to pay respect and show our gratitude for what he had done for us.

“Phukietians will become one for him,” Gov Chockchai said.

“I want to invite everyone to join the event, please dress in black attire and bring with you white candles. Don’t forget a raincoat just in case.

“We will set out car parking areas for residents in at least three locations and we will have police to assist with directing traffic,” he added.

Gov Chockchai also said that transportation has and is being provided for those who want to go the Bangkok to pay respect to the late King at the Grand Palace. The first group left on Sunday (Nov 6), and the next groups will be leaving on November 24, December 13 and January 1 at 6pm.
