Phuket taxi crashes into 18-wheeler truck

Phuket: A 35-year-old taxi driver was taken to hospital after crashing his vehicle into an 18-wheeler truck in Mai Khao this morning (April 30).

At 10:30am, Tha Chat Chai police were called to the scene of an accident where an airport taxi had crashed into an 18-wheeler truck near Wat Mai Khao on the northbound lane of Thepkassatri Rd.

Upon arrival at the scene, police found a Toyota taxi crashed into a ditch with one injured man trapped inside.

Local residents helped police open one of the car doors and remove the injured man who was later named as Wicharn Artharn, 35.

The 18-wheeler truck registered in Bangkok was 100 metres away from the collision site, and the driver Sumais Kladsri, 39, was waiting for police to arrive.

Mr Sumais told police that he was driving from Phuket Town heading north on Thepkassatri Rd when the taxi came out of the Wat Mai Khao junction and slammed into the centre of the of the trailer truck and then crashed into the ditch.

Mr Wicharn was taken to Thalang Hospital and he will be questioned by police when he is fit for them to do so.
