The initiatives were reviewed at the fourth meeting of the Phuket Sub-Committee for the Promotion and Development of the Quality of Life for People with Disabilities, held at Phuket Provincial Hall on Tuesday (July 21).
The meeting was chaired by Phuket Vice Governor Suwit Phansangiam. It was attended by committee members, representatives from relevant government agencies and officials responsible for disability services.
Among the key developments, the committee acknowledged the approval of a licence for the Mai Khao Tambon Administrative Organisation (OrBorTor) disability service centre to operate as a general disability service centre, providing an additional point of access for support services in the area.
Members also reviewed the financial status of the Phuket Provincial Fund for the Promotion and Development of the Quality of Life for People with Disabilities, including outstanding loans and repayment progress.
The committee examined the results of vocational training loans issued during the 2026 fiscal year and reviewed employment outcomes for people with disabilities and their caregivers who had received financial support from the fund.
Officials also discussed plans to inspect businesses and government agencies to ensure compliance with laws requiring the employment of people with disabilities, as well as preparations for selecting outstanding people with disabilities for provincial recognition in 2026.
Other agenda items included monitoring the implementation of Phuket’s disability quality-of-life development plan under the provincial social development strategy, cancelling a planned outsourced sign language interpretation project, revising the 2026 budget allocation for disability programmes and considering new loan applications to support vocational training.
The province said it would strengthen coordination between government agencies to ensure disability programmes produce tangible results and enable all 7,288 registered people with disabilities in Phuket to access their rights, welfare, funding, employment opportunities and quality-of-life support on an equitable basis.
