The ceremony was held at King Rama X Commemoration Park at the tip of Saphan Hin Peninsula and was presided over by Phuket Governor Chotinrin Kerdsum.
Phuket Provincial Fisheries Officer Pikul Chairat said the event was organised by the Department of Fisheries through the Phuket Provincial Fisheries Office in cooperation with Phuket City Municipality and other agencies.
She said the initiative was intended to honour the King while promoting the conservation and restoration of aquatic resources and marine ecosystems. The project also aimed to encourage public participation in protecting natural resources to ensure their long-term sustainability.
During the ceremony, Governor Chotinrin led participants in paying tribute to the King and reciting blessings before releasing the shrimp into the sea.
Officials said the release was intended to help increase marine animal populations, restore the abundance of Phuket’s coastal ecosystems and support local fishing communities by strengthening fishery resources and contributing to sustainable livelihoods.
The event was attended by government officials, Fisheries Department staff, students, local business representatives and members of the public.
