The motorcades, cyclists and street parade will leave Saphan Hin after Phuket Governor Chamroen Tipayapongtada declares the event officially open at 9am and head out into all three districts on the island, said a notice issued by the Phuket office of the Public Relations Department today (Aug 3)
The Big Day event campaign in Phuket is organised by Election Commission Phuket office (PEC) and other departments to raise awareness of the referendum on Sunday and aims to encourage all eligible voters to take part, the notice said.
In addition to the multiple street processions, displays and exhibitions will be set up at Saphan Hin as part of the event for people to learn about the Thai constitution and the upcoming referendum.
Motorists are advised to beware changes to traffic flow at Saphan Hin to allow the processions to proceed unimpeded. Also, parking in certain areas will be marked off as reserved for VIPs, the notice added.
The processions are as follows:
Big Bike Caravan to Patong
- Depart Saphan Hin, turn left to Rattanakosin 200 Pi Rd, head toward Phuket Vocational College and turn left onto Thepsrisin Bridge.
- Continue to Dowroong Wittaya School and turn left onto Chao Fa East Rd
- Continue to Chalong Circle, turn right onto Patak Rd to Karon
- Continue along Patak Rd to Patong
- Turn left onto Phrabaramee Rd, then left into Rat U-Thit 200 Pi Rd
- Turn right at Sainamyen School
- Conclude at Loma Park at Patong Beach
Cyclists route to Kathu District Office
- Depart Saphan Hin, continue onto Phuket Rd
- Pass Surin Circle and turn left onto Rassada Rd
- Pass Suriyadej Circle to Ranong Rd
- Cross Pattiphat Rd, continue onto Wichit Songkram Rd
- Continue through the Darasamut Intersection and along Wichit Songkram Rd into Kathu
- Pass Kathu Public Park and conclude at Kathu Municipality Office
Sound truck motorcade to Thalang
- Depart Saphan Hin, continue onto Phuket Rd
- Turn left onto Rassada Rd
- Turn right at Suriyadej Circle onto Yaowarat Rd
- Turn right onto Dibuk Rd
- Turn right onto Thepkrasattri Rd
- Stop at Tesco in Thalang to join students from a local school for walking parade in Thalang
Cyclists route to Koh Kaew
- Depart Saphan Hin, continue onto Phuket Rd
- Turn left onto Rassada Rd
- Turn right at Suriyadej Circle onto Yaowarat Rd
- Turn right onto Dibuk Rd
- Turn left onto Thepkrasattri Rd and conclude at Koh Kaew Tambon Administration Organisation (OrBorTor) offices.
Street Parade
- Depart Saphan Hin to Phuket Rd
- Pass Surin Circle
- Conclude at Lan Nawamin square on Phuket Rd
