This year’s campaign is being held under the theme ‘Safe Driving, Reduce Speed, Reduce Accidents’, with officials aiming to reduce road and maritime incidents during one of the busiest holiday travel periods of the year.

The ceremony, held at Phuket Provincial Hall, was attended by senior provincial officials, representatives from government agencies, private sector partners and relevant organisations. The campaign follows the national integrated plan for accident prevention prepared by the Road Safety Command Centre.

The ‘intensive’ safety control period will be from next Tuesday (Dec 30) to Jan 5, during which checkpoints will be set up across the island and stricter enforcement measures will be in place for both road and maritime transport.

Governor Nirat said safety measures will focus on traffic management, enforcement against driving offences, and enhanced marine safety in key tourist areas. He urged agencies to work together to raise awareness among residents and tourists, stressing the importance of reducing speed, wearing helmets, avoiding drink-driving and complying with maritime safety rules.

The launch event included the handover of support equipment from partner networks, a campaign briefing and the release of a public-awareness convoy.

Authorities said the campaign aims to reduce injuries, fatalities and property damage, while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for locals and visitors celebrating the New Year in Phuket.
