Phuket rain, flood warning as Cyclone Mora fallout hits Andaman coast

PHUKET: The Thailand Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued a weather advisory warning small boats to stay ashore as the fallout from Cyclone Mora, which has just ascended the Bay of Bengal to the west of Phuket, brings storm weather and large waves to Andaman Sea.

Small vessels are advised to remain ashore and monitor the weather closely with storm weather in the coming days expected to cause waves of up to three metres high, the TMD warned.

According to a weather alert issued last night, Cyclone Mora will bring heavy rains to most parts of Thailand and stir the Andaman Sea as it looks makes landfall at the northern cusp of the Bay of Bengal, bringing strong winds and heavy rain from Bangladesh to Myanmar today (May 30).

The North, Northeast, Central, East and upper South regions of Thailand will have a greater chance of heavy rains, so people in these areas are being warned of possible dangers of the rainstorm, the alert said.

Waves along the Andaman coast are expected to reach up to three meters high.

“Please, people be aware that heavy rain might lead to flooding in risk areas,” the warning said.
