Government offices including Phuket Immigration Office, District Office, Employment Office and Land Transport office are all set to close thought the three-day period, along with Post Offices and smaller bank branches. However, banks in major shopping malls will only be closed on Wednesday and reopen as normal on Thursday and Friday.
Local consulate offices will also be closed throughout the festival period, but will be available to answer emergency phone calls.
Phuket Police Chief Col Teeraphol Thipjaroen has confirmed there will be no ban on alcohol sales during the holiday, however, he has asked people to help promote road safety this Songkran and advised all motorists not to drink and drive.
