At 4:20pm, Phuket Inspector, Lt Somsak Tongkleang led his team to investigate a rented room in soi Paniang on Yaowarat Rd after the home owner became suspicious that the person who had rented the room was hiding something illegal inside.
“The room was rented out to a Burmese woman for B4,000 a month and she paid two months rent in advance. She has not yet paid for March and we are unable to contact her. We were afraid that they she may be using the room to store illegal items,” said the home owner.
The room had been locked from the outside, but police were able to gain entry to the one-bedroom unit after cutting the lock.
Inside the room police found a total of 40 casino and gaming machines. Most were in perfect condition, but some had had their mechanisms taken out so were not in working order.
Police said that the machines were worth more than B2 million but the home owner did not have any more information about the woman who rented the room.
However, they assume that the Burmese woman was hired to rent the room to hide casino and gaming machines.
All of the machines were taken to Phuket City Police Station in a six wheelers truck.
