Lt Sakrin Saengchareu of the Chalong Police received notice that a foetus had been found in a canal in Soi Kruwatthana, Moo 2, Chalong at 11:30am yesterday (May 2).

Deputy chief of Chalong Police Lt Col Sanan Chanrong and Chalong Mayor Samran Jindapol inspected at the scene with forensic police and and inspected the body of the foetus which they said was 4-months-old. However, they were unable to tell the sex.

Lt Col Sanan questioned the operator of a crane dredging the canal and was told that he found a white covering stuck to a piece of wood floating in the canal. The driver stopped working and removed the covering and discovered the rotting foetus inside.

The crane operator said that the find frightened him so he left the foetus on the ground and called police.

“The foetus was taken to Vachira Phuket Hospital. Now we have to find out the mother. Then we will investigate further and see whether charges will be pressed, Lt Col Sanan said.
