The first was in the early hours at the chic Bangtao Tropical Residence, where officers found two Russian tourists sitting with the body of their friend who, they were told, was called Timur Ivanov, age 43.
Pol Lt Thanapop Rattanaburi, investigator, was told by Cherng Talay Rescue staff, already on the scene, that they had received a call from the hotel asking for assistance with Mr Ivanov, who was unconscious.
They worked for an hour to revive him but without success; indeed, he died, at which point police were called.
Mr Ivanov's remains were taken to Thalang Hospital where they will be examined to establish the cause of death.
Just a few hours later, at 10 am, officers were called to a small tin-roof hut on Kuan Glang Rd, where lay the body Kongpop Padungjit, 53, from Isarn. His death was estimated to have occurred about five hours earlier.
People living nearby said that last night they had seen Mr Kongpop celebrating a neighbour’s birthday. This morning they became conerned when they did not see him, as usual, sitting in front of his hut.
A neighbour checked, and finding him lying on his bed, unresponsive, called the Kusoldharm Foundation, who arrived and declared him already dead.
Mr Kongpop, neighbours said, had a number of health problems including diabetes, high blood pressure and an over-fondness for alcohol.
