Yesterday (May 19) at 3:30am Thalang Police received report that a thief had robbed a 7-eleven near the Heroines Monument on Thepkrasattri Rd in Thalang and fled the scene.

Capt Kraisorn Boonprasop arrived at the scene soon after and spoke to two staff members at the 7-Eleven Monument 1 branch.

Capt Kraisorn said, “The staff members told us that at 3:30am yesterday a man who looked to be in his teens and wearing a helmet, orange raincoat and black trouser used a gun to rob the store. At gunpoint he forced the staff to hand over B4,100 in cash before speeding away.”

The store’s CCTV footage was checked and police observed the thief leaving the 7-Eleven and turning left at the back of Tharua fresh market. He took off his raincoat and helmet and headed southbound on Thepkrassattri Rd. Police began a search for the suspect in the area.

At 5pm police arrested a suspect at a rented room in Yeeteng, approximately 2km away from the 7-Eleven. The man named by police as Mr Kumafaisol Kuborsu, 25, from Pattani. Police found B2,000, a fake gun and mask at the rental room.

Thalang Police Chief Col Sompong Thiparpakul together with Thalang Police deputy Chief Lt Col Weerayut Sitthiratthanakul, Lt Col Phongphan Siriphattharanukul of Thalang Police and Phuket Provincial Deputy Chief Lt Col Pathak Khwanna took Mr Kumafaisol to Thalang Police Station for questioning.

Mr Kumafaisol confessed to police that he had committed the armed robbery, saying “I robbed the 7-Eleven. I have been unemployed for about one month and I needed money.”

Police found that Mr Kumafaisol was arrested for drugs charges in 2011 and jailed for two years. He had also previously been caught stealing beer from a shop but no charges were filed against him.

He was recently working for a company in Patong as a security guard but was fired because he always late for work.

Mr Kumafaisol was charged with robbery.
