The vehicle involved had been stolen early in the morning of January 16.

At around 3pm today (January 22), police, who were on general patrol of the area found the Mitsubishi Strada, license number 4778, abandoned on a small dirt road of a remote hill leading to Baan Yamu, about 6-7 km off Khaw Lan intersection.

It had been dumped at the entrance to a rubber plantation in Baan Khwan Ta Thain, about 15 kilometres from where the attempt to rob the ATM took place.

The road is only used to access nearby rubber plantations.

Police have now traced the owner of the vehicle, Boonit Makkeur, from Rassada, and he has advised that he filed a stolen vehicle report at the Phuket City police station when he woke up and realised the vehicle had been stolen. This was later in the morning of the incident.

The police have confirmed to The Phuket News that the car was broken into and was started by hot-wiring.

They have also taken fingerprints from the truck and are now trying to find a match.
