The operation was announced last night (Nov 16) at 7:30pm at the Phuket Wittayalai School by Phuket Provincial Police Commander Pol Maj Gen Sinlert Sukhum, together with Phuket City Police Chief Pol Col Chatree Chukaew.
According to police, the suspect – a woman previously working as an online seller – allegedly shifted to mass-sending COD packages to thousands of people whose names and addresses were stored in her database.
Officers seized 20,829 items during the raid, while a financial check of her account showed daily turnover of about B80,000.
The woman was identified as Khanapha ‘Muk’ Mengsan, 31, of Palian District, Trang.
Data found on her laptop included more than 100,000 customer names, prompting investigators to examine how the information was obtained and whether other criminal groups were involved. Police said the case has the hallmarks of a coordinated nationwide scam operation.
The Phuket Provincial Public Health Office has joined the investigation, as many of the seized products were cosmetics found to be illegal or unregistered.
Police confirmed that Khanapha is facing two charges so far: selling unregistered cosmetics, violating Section 32(1), carrying a fine of up to B20,000; and selling cosmetics without Thai-language labels, thus violating Section 22(2) and Section 32(4), punishable by up to one month in prison, up to B10,000 fine, or both
The seized items included 7,492 illegal goods, 5,223 parcels, 3,890 packaged items, 1,099 ready-to-ship products and 3,125 returned parcels.
Phuket Provincial Police said they will continue expanding the investigation, including identifying victims, tracing the source of the personal data and pursuing all individuals connected to the scam.
